About the Publication

The sea transport of goods and passengers continues to grow steadily, driven by the globalization of the economy. This trend accelerates international trade and demands increasing specialization of ships and port terminals, supported by the principles of comodality and its environmentally conscious counterpart, ecomodality. Ports, as essential and strategic nodes in the transport chain, must provide seamless integration between different modes of transport. They are no longer just infrastructures, they must meet evolving quality standards and respond to growing societal and regulatory expectations regarding environmental sustainability. In this context, port environmental protection, as well as safety and security, have become critical factors in the development of modern maritime transport. Equally important is the human factor on board vessels, which plays a decisive role in ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations. The MT’26 Conference welcomes researchers, academics, professionals, entrepreneurs, and all stakeholders involved in the shipping industry and maritime education and training worldwide. In its 2026 edition, public administrations, institutions, and companies will find an ideal forum to meet, share, and debate their most recent achievements, innovations, and challenges. The 11th International Conference on Maritime Transport (MT’26) will be held onsite in Barcelona, from May 27 to 29, 2026, at the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies (FNB-UPC). www.fnb.upc.edu.
