Abstract

The following paper is part of a doctoral thesis still in progress whose aim is to evaluate the public space policy initiative of the Regional Government of Andalusia called The Friendly City. It is piloting program which seeks to raise awareness, deliver training and intervention in public spaces and urban mobility. This program proposes a change in the current public space policies by working in the already consolidated city and incorporating sustainable mobility and citizen participation in the urban debate. Process evaluation is the methodology chosen to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the 52 interventions carried out by The Friendly City program in its initial piloting year. This type of evaluation allows us to identify the measures and procedures used in each intervention as well as to develop an understanding of the driving factors and the barriers affecting the overall success of their implementation.
