Zaragoza is found immersed in a process of transformation unprecedented in the history of the city. The arrival of the AVE (high speed train), the Expo 2008, the construction of the Ecociudad Valdespartera, the plan of neighbourhoods and a volume of urban development and architectural projects are going to change the physiognomy and the functioning of the city as it is currently known.
The virtual model of Zaragoza being developed by EUVE constitutes an extremely valuable support for the communication of all these projects. It allows the public at large to understand the present, and to find out about the future of its city. On the other hand it supposes a tremendous technological challenge if we keep in mind that the model moves in real-time: Zaragoza is one of the most spread out municipalities of the Iberian Peninsula, with regard to its geographical dimension. This paper describes the process that has been carried out for the construction of the three-dimensional model of the city with a view to its interactive visualisation.
