In the first place, the article focuses on the particular characteristics of housing demand, understanding a house as a good of basic need and at the same time a receptacle of exchange value. It analyses the factors which explain the evolution of house prices, specifically in Barcelona and Catalonia. The article then considers the strategies that people and families have drawn upon, to cover their housing needs, referring to solutions offered from the housing market itself and from the public administration. Finally it shows some of the consequences of the increase in house prices.Downloads
