Abstract

This article is based on a work nominated “Models of occupation and territorial zones in the department of Norte de Santander, Colombia – Catatumbo Region” it is presented in the frame of the National Meeting 10 years of the Law of Territorial Organization: One lecture from Colombia regions. Within this study, there were developed the following themes: Initially is worked out a characterization of Norte de Santander Department and the state of the territorial organization of its counties; subsequently, it defines it, as a general overview of the Catatumbo Region in its territorial and sociopolitical aspects. Next it will be talked about zones and territorial models which are present in the Catatumbo Region, giving details on each one of them, as follows; Forestry Reserve of the Motilones mountainous region, Natural National Parks of Catatumbo-Bari, Motilón – Bari Indigenous refuge including Catalaura and the models of territorial occupation from the perspective of a county level. Finally it gives an overview on this region and arises some challenges the current territory of Catatumbo in the Norte de Santander Department has.
