Abstract

Public space of cities is currently a prime objective of a study. The article considers the public space from the perspective of relational space, which constitutes an important part of analysis for the study of the interaction between immigrants and natives in the Spanish cities. In this case we have chosen the city of Guadalajara for its high number of foreigners and because it has a graspable size to cope with their analysis in regard to public open space and facilities for collective consumption, especially cultural which highlight existence of different social groups. The result is that very often there is a juxtaposed presence of individuals from different origins that occupy different areas of space without interaction with other groups. On the other hand there is a deficit of activities in these public places that would be a key factor in bringing together individuals from different origins as a basis for strengthening social cohesion.
