An approach to the polycentric urban structure in Madrid

The paper presents an analysis of the evolution of recent urban restructuring of region of Madrid where characteristics of polycentricity and dispersal are identified. It provides evidence of the existence of metropolitan subcenters that continue consolidating as authentic nodes of influence and reference to the territories of its around based on the analysis of labour mobility flows that allow to capture the interaction between them and their areas of influence. Some socioeconomic characteristics of the Metropolitan subcenters in terms of productive specialization and human capital are analyzed to detect common patterns that could be derived from the polycentric o dispersal structure, and finally it contrasts the effects of the polycentric structure has generated in terms of convergence between the territories.Downloads
