Abstract

deterioration) in the face of the growth and expansion of our cities? How can we enhance, activate and generate interest in these centres without losing their original features?

This publication pursues to showcase the possibilities presented by the new advancements in technology to consolidate the improvement on quality life and opportunities of the inhabitants in the historic centres, without losing its own cultural meaning and “urban memory.”

It’s the synthesis of an investigation that uses bibliographical sources like a contextual frame; and locates architectural observation -a bond created between sketches and annotations- as a language capable of accessing the city, transforming the observer into a new inhabitant, capable of understanding and intervening in its own development.

The result is the proposition of a masterplan for the city of Sutri [VT], Italy; consisting of intervention strategies at architectural, urban, mobility infrastructure, environmental and protection categories; a coherent recovery plan on the recognition of its own resources and characteristics.

The small historic centres have the potential to serve as catalysts for territorial re-equilibrium, through the reinvention of historical urban space, respecting and valuing their identity in the current European and South American context.
