Author Biographies

Ricard Pie Ninot, Technical University of Catalonia (UPC)

Dr. Architect. Professor of Urban Planning and Regional Planning Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Director of the School of Architecture of Valles (UPC) and founder of the School of Architecture of Malaga (UMA). Director of the Interuniversity Institute "Habitat, Tourism, Territory" (UPC-UMA).
He has professionally been responsible for the drafting of various urban planning plans and editor of the Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona. He has several awards, among others, the "Research Prize in Urbanism of the XI Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2010" by the Housing Plan of Catalonia. He has been Director of Planning Services of the City of Barcelona in the preparatory years of the Olympic Games (1989-1992). He has published several chapters of books and articles in journals on urban planning and planning.

Màrius Rubiralta Alcañiz, University of Barcelona (UB)

Doctor of Chemical Sciences and Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences. Author of over one hundred international publications and directed fifteen doctoral theses. Member of the Department of Nutrition, Food Science and Gastronomy, and professor of Organic Chemistry of Foods at the Torribera Food Campus.
He was rector of the University of Barcelona from 2005 to 2008, when he accepted the position of Secretary of State for Universities. Subsequently, he was Secretary General of Universities of the Ministry of Education (2009-2011). He has also held the positions of director of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry, vice president of the Division of Health Sciences, vice-rector of Research at the University of Barcelona and general director of the Scientific Park of Barcelona.
