Abstract

Starting from the archaeological excavations carried out in the nineteenthcentury by the British and the Americans in what was then a province of the OttomanEmpire, after having synthetically reconstructed the events that led to the independence ofIraqi monarchy in 1932 and the Republican transition in 1958, the Embassy of the UnitedStates built by Sert, Jackson and Gourley (1955-1961) and the new building designed byBergerm-Devine-Yaeger (2007-2011) are assumed as iconic images of the ambiguityregionalism/imperialism.
