I do not know what you may think, but I like seeing these potatoes. It is difficult to express, it is something that no one but the artist can perceive. Sometimes we stand in front of a painting and we think: ‘What this artist saw, which I will never see, is beautiful’. But here, while we look at them, we think: ‘These potatoes are ours!’. There is in these paintings a certain disappearance from the author that creates a space in front of the masterpiece, a place to be invaded by the observer. There is room for the spectator and our gaze falls over the paintings, received as water within a cup. These potatoes are ours!
On the paintings covered with gold leaf, we hardly perceive the fragments of trees. But as we come closer, the image absorbs the red color of our sweater, which is magnetized, stolen and given back to us. The brightness of the painting then becomes reddish and mutates differently depending on who observes it. Its appearance does no longer belong to the artist but to the spectator. Yes, these potatoes are ours! Thank you.
