Abstract

Barcelona is a city full of flat rooftops, most of them empty, that provide spaces that have little to do with what goes on beneath them, inside the houses and in the streets.

Thus far, some more-or-less successful attempts have been made to recover these places, but there has not been an intervention at such a scale that it can be considered a real contribution at an urban level. We have learnt that the role these rooftop terraces may play in relation to the rest of the city is being currently studied at the city council, and we have talked with Vicente Guallart, Chief Architect of the Barcelona City Council, in this regard.
