Abstract

Throughout his professional career Mies maintained a strict observance regarding the two horizontal planes which systematically delimited his architecture, the ground level and the roof. The roof plane has raised more analysis and recognition, while the other horizontal plane, the ground level, has been significantly less explored despite his indisputable relevance.

In Mies architecture’s the platform is systematically used as a mediation space, interacting with the site and defining the edge of the project and, as a transition space, building the visual approach system of the compound.
