Abstract

This interview was carried out in 1994, much earlier than the attack on the Twin Towers. During those years, I worked as a local architect on a project led by I.M.Pei for a major financial institution. The building was never executed, but the lengthy development of the project allowed me to establish an intense friendship with both Pei and Robertson. That time coincided with a personal interest in high-rise buildings, so the discovery of the Bank of China by the hand of its authors gave me the opportunity to study in depth a skyscraper that, still today, constitutes one of those great moments of architecture in which avant-garde technology allows formulating new structural and figurative hypotheses applied, in this case, to high-rise construction.
