Alcanzar la complejidad mediante la utilización de formas sencillas dominadas desde el trazado de la planta es una virtud recurrente en la obra de Manuel de las Casas. La planta de la Casa de los Cigarrales, o Casa Magariños (fig. 1), es paradigmática de esa búsqueda virtuosa.
Se trata de una pieza austera, que recurre al modo primitivo y económico de la traza de crujías paralelas de muros de carga, a la composición higienista de la planta pasante, al decoro escueto supeditado al correcto uso de la construcción autóctona. Las fábricas, aun acudiendo a lo vernáculo, se horadan con gramática del Movimiento Moderno y resuelven el testero con la abstracción de la geometría rotunda del ángulo de 90o. Todo queda representado en una ascética planta rectangular de piezas espaciales moduladas según los usos domésticos.
Son los elementos de la construcción tradicional, es la arquitectura de la traza depurada al servicio de un tiempo nuevo, en este caso próxima al Postmodern dominante.
