Abstract

This paper focuses on the public space of Bogotá from the point of view of its architectural quality and its consequences on urban life. A series of spaces from different periods have been selected within a previous framework represented in a series of entire city plans by Nolli (1538 - 1992). However, this selection is not intended to cover all public space, but rather constitutes a sample of what will be a comprehensive typological study that allows inferring other urban phenomena with respect to collective livability (Gelh, 2014).

The point of view of formal analysis is inverted by considering the public space as an architectural object with properties of composition, proportion and formal structure. For this reason, it is necessary to represent the space both in its inverse Nolli version and in physical models to establish what the architecture of the public space is like.

Keywords: Urban shape, public space, architecture, urban design.
