Abstract

The Royal Estate of La Florida and La Moncloa became, throughout the 19th century, a strategic location for Madrid’s northwestern growth. In this communication it is intended, through the use of drawing as a scientific instrument, to analyze and explain how was the process of fragmentation of the real property and its gradual integration within the urban structure of the capital. Much of the urban development that occurred in those decades is at the origin of the shape and the circumstances of the current city, so understanding it is essential to understand the Madrid where we live today and –when necessary- to be able to intervene in it.

Keywords: urban development, Madrid, 19th and 20th centuries, city drawing.
