Abstract

Everyday cities are growing, and it is necessary to regenerate urban areas that are facing obsolescence. Usually, when considering a process of this scope, it is common to leave behind the essential aspects that lead the design decisions to create real places, which contribute to the development of people and to outline the social function involved in the definition of the city. This document defines guidelines to address urban areas in the conditions previously mentioned, and to aim this purpose, it is selected the public market area in Barranquilla as a case of analysis. Also, with a concept review, a site analysis, and the recognition of design actions, it is possible to establish the contribution of urban intervention to the social function of the city, as well as formulating strategies to qualify the area by highlighting this purpose.
