Abstract

The paper presents only partially the development of more extensive research that aims to describe, characterize, and interpret the relationship between modern architecture and the city through the category of the urban project in Chile between 1930 and 1980. It intends to Identify and characterize the relationship between architecture and urban planning, as well as the correspondences between the instruments of planning and those of architecture present in the category of urban project, which were oriented to the development of Chilean cities.
The urban project in Chile had at least three critical moments of definition: the first between 1929 and 1940, the second between 1940 and 1960, and the third between 1960 and 1979. The paper aims to show, through a critical historical reading, the institutional conditions, the main arguments, and the paradigmatic cases in the search for relations or articulations between the idea of the plan and the urban project.
