Abstract

Urban segregation has been addressed mainly from the perspective of residential location, however, Moro et al (2011) indicate that it can also be observed from a dynamic approach. That is, the way people move during the day may reflect a new form of segregation that has not yet been studied. This article seeks to contribute methodologically to the measurement and representation of segregation from the potential of movement. To this end, it analyses how segregation has been constructed in the Metropolitan Area of Concepción (AMC) through its spatial component, which is constructed through the configuration of the built environment of the urban fabric using the theoretical and methodological tool Space Syntax. Finally, typologies of urban environments are proposed through geostatistics. The results contribute to the problematisation of socio-spatial segregation through its representation in space.
