Abstract

With the notion of accidental city, understood, as the distance between project and experience, are defined those conditions, where existent urban experience is not formulated within the project or system of projects present in a location. It is an external experience, not given by the statements, objectives, techniques and representations of a plan. This surplus would be more accurately determinable in plans of instrumental approach, which clearly declare its limits, and show no interest in the experience obtained after its implementation. Outstanding instances of these conditions are the urban expressways, as being very specialized ways that cross the territory, often producing tense and powerful visual experience. One review of the confrontation of project operation and experience, as well as a proposal for its representation, is performed for the Costanera Norte Expressway in Santiago de Chile.
