Abstract

Given the influence of industry on the development of cities and the consequences in social experiences, we study the potential and limitations of intervention in industrial abandoned fields. These formerly corresponded to peripheral sites, but due to the expansion of the cities this locals currently correspond to central areas of the city. Having regard to the reasons for i s emergence, we understand the approaches that have been conducted on these soils at Industrial Heritage and Archaeology and understand that this approach has been limiting the return of industrial space to the city and society interaction, and such we studied interventions were it is possible to identify other methodology of thinking these spaces, such as in the Fábrica de Couros in Guimarães, taken as an example that contradicts this trend. To understand this subject had reference José Amado Mendes, with articles on the industrial heritage and archeology, Nuno Portas's vision on how to approach the obsolete fields, Peter Roberts and Hugh Sykes with their studies and strategies about regeneration.
