Abstract

This article aims to analyze the potential of attraction of the road infrastructures of high speed and their nodal points to the preferential location of a diversified set of production, consummation and distribution equipment that many describe as neo functional clusters but here are mentioned as peripheral centralities. For that, it is applied the Social Logic of Space Theory, or Space Syntax, to the concrete case study of the Taveiro`s Expressway and its articulation node with the highway nº.1, at the Coimbra`s district. With this methodology it is demonstrated that the Taveiro`s Expressway, either by its geographical position, either by the spatial relations that establishes with its surrounding areas, represents an element of attraction to the fixation of the referred equipment and is an agent of urbanized development by itself.
