Abstract

The beginning of this century have coincided with a major investment in public space in the transformation agenda of Colombian cities in which cities like Bogota and Medellin are the most relevant cases, that while such processes include political leadership and technician focus in a short period of time, it was largely facilitated by a combination of circumstances that coincided at an opportune time, and facilitated the process. It is not possible understand the significant achievements of local governments for the new century, without understand the relating to major advances in urban legislation occurred in Colombia in the nineties, particularly those related to increased work in the public space as complex strategy to sew territories broken in several ways. This article shows us the development and analysis of national legislation occurred in the last decade of the twentieth century, which has directed the management of public space, so as to enable to take stock of the current scenario and understand the regulatory framework and context of interventions in Colombian cities.
