Abstract

The introduction of shopping centres in metropolitan areas has led to major changes in the operation of cities. The modern introduction of these commercial models in the suburban peripheries causes a rise of commuters in the area, carving out a distinct identity and in some cases, resulting in the creation of new centers within the city. However, we need to assess whether the introduction of these centers is what the city currently requires. In most cases, these models are not properly integrated with the surrounding environment, disregarding the relationship with the adjoined urban network and only paying attention to the access with private vehicle. This paper introduces a case study of the main commercial centers in Granada including some ideas to put them at the service of the city.
