Abstract

This paper is part of research on the changes in urban peripheries of São Paulo´s medium cities, associated with social housing policy and the land and property interests of new gated condos. New trends in the urban space production of expansion areas in contemporary cities, rooted in the unequal territory’s appropriation, redefine the social and economic content of these areas and contribute to understand the spatial social inequality and socio-territorial segregation. The article analyses the new production and appropriation´s dynamics of land in the urban fringe in São José do Rio Preto, midsize city.
