Abstract

This work is based on criteria of metropolization, transnational integration and multilevel governance for the border urban development, under a descriptive methodological approach with documentary evidence and a mixed structure, seeks to determine the configuring facts of the Colombo-Venezuelan border reality under the dynamics of border development that occur in similar contexts of characteristics. The scope corresponds to the metropolitan areas of San Cristobal and Cucuta, and the efforts are focused to indentify the theoretical and normative basis that would allow to properly interpret both the interdependence and complementary relationships, and the management initiatives which have been given in the metropolitan areas under study. The above, in order to formulate territorial strategies of binational management that will contribute to pass from a border limit to an integrated transnational area.
