Abstract

The article focuses on the study of the relations between public and private space in the dense financial district of Hong Kong. Particular attention was concentrated on the role of public spaces in private developments, (POPS) exploring the possibility to improve the connectivity and the integration of these spaces into the complex and multilevel city’s structure. The research is focused on the analysis of the collective spaces present in the urban structure, i.e. those spaces that are neither proper public nor private, which represent a distinctive aspect of the city’s form. In Hong Kong, especially in the district of Central, the boundaries between public and private space are not clearly defined. The analysis of this undefined territory and its significance in the urban form has been one of the main purposes that have generated this research.
