Vivienda y territorio en el Área Metropolitana de Bilbao: espacios de oportunidad para una planificación racional y justa

Abstract

Facing up to the demographic and physical reality of this region, the majority of its municipalities continue providing a large area of land for the construction of new housing. And they still do so under the current urban and real estate model without giving solution to the existing need of accommodation. We will show that the local territory must not succumb to the simplistic view of ‘suitable to urbanize’, that no so many homes are needed, and that the necessary ones can be placed in many of the areas planned for that purpose, preserving many others from the construction and urbanisation so can be assigned to necessary uses and services for the urban life.
