Urbanismo del miedo y representacion distópica de las ciudades

Abstract

This article explores how fear is reflected in popular culture and the ways it influenced urban planning throughout modern history. By analysing the urban imaginary throughout the XX and XXI centuries, we will try to find out how has urban planning been affected by fears of uncertain and apocalyptic future. Using theoretical-conceptual and historical-formal approaches, we will cover some topics that urban planning and cinematic representations of the city have in common, such as modernism, urban-rural paradigm, anti-urbanism, fragmentation and spatial segregation, urban renewal and finally, resilient and smart cities.
