Abstract

This exhibition is drawn from a research that study renovated spaces to understand the virtuous relationships that urban renewal policies must necessarily reproduce - beyond the urban built form and edified space - to ensure sustained use of public space. Thus, it is argued that the study of "ambiance" contributes to the understanding of the potential of space for adaptation, its uses in terms of practices and their potential for change. The observation field focuses on the uses to understand the spatial and sensory devices that allows social practices in a given space, giving a particular characteristic; in the sense proposed by Augoyard (2004): identifiable. The research aims at understanding how a sustainable urban space would be, understood as that which remains active in use without deterioration over time.
