Abstract

The current complexity of urban dynamics in Latin America produces a series of transformations that is reflected on different problems that humans have to face. Because of this, it becomes necessary to analyze, design and build the city not as an isolated element, but as a system that is part of other systems, since its proper functioning depends on both internal and external factors. In this context, the underground space remains a potential resource that has not yet been exploited, nor fully explored. Several contemporary cities have limitations of territory, growth or extreme weather, and this is where we can find examples of how the underground dimensions are integrated in order to complement and multiply spaces, activities and relations in the city.
