Abstract

The growing importance of mobility in cities is demanding large road and transportation projects in order to qualify the interaction in urban space. Generally the impacts of these changes are not analyzed comprehen-sively, given the complexity of this task. The paper aims to contribute to the analysis of the relationship be-tween large road interventions and their impact on the urban structure, applying a configurational approach. The aim of this paper is to present preliminary results of the application of Space Syntax models (HILLIER and HANSON, 1984) for the description and analysis of urban impacts resulting from the implementation of major road works. The City of Concepción, Argentina, was taken as an empirical study, analyzing interven-tions on the National Route 38 and State 365, the so-called urban crossing. The paper compares the config-uration of the city with and without the urban crossing, identifying changes in the patterns of accessibility and discussing trends in the dynamics of urban spatial structure.
