Abstract

This paper analyzes the center of Florianópolis and its spatial attributes that qualify its urban spaces and enhance their vitality. The surroundings of the November XV Square is highlighted as a case, restoring its historical process of growth and performing morphological analysis to identify characteristics which potentiate or discourage urbanity. The methodology starts with the analysis of the urban form and the distribution of uses and activities in the urban fabric, linking these readings to the truly appropriation of public space, observed in situ. It is visible that the urban structure originated from Florianópolis colonization morphologically favors social relations in public space. However, it is noted that recent changes tend to generate underserved areas of such attributes. This work seeks to understand the spatial attributes that qualify the urban life in the city center, reaffirming its potential urbanity in local terms and providing effective integration with the urban structure in which it is inserted.
