Abstract

Frequent natural disasters have ratified the need to incorporate this issue in planning the territory. The hydrographic basin of the river Itajaí is remembered by the 2008 disaster that generated social, ecological and economic losses. The objective is to analyze the territory by identifying urban policies intruments established in the basin of the Itajaí river in different historical periods. Specific objectives: to cognize the urban policies instruments in Itajaí River basin, identify which urban instruments have higher recurrence, and to evaluate the influence of the natural disaster in 2008 in the implementation of new urban policies instruments. The study use systemic approach, with bibliographical and documentary research, based on Census data. The search consists of three steps: data collection, organization and analysis. In last decade, we observe continuity in the implementation of new urban planning instruments, but with little progress on specific legislation to prevent and mitigate risks.
