Revitalizações urbanas em frentes d’água: os desafios ao planejamento urbano contemporâneo: estudo de caso sobre a revitalização do Porto Velho da cidade do Rio Grande/RS/BR

Abstract

This article is part of a research on the theme of urban revitalization in waterfronts, which emerged due to the significant number of case studies and the importance of the relation between those areas and urban dynamics. It focuses on the case study of Rio Grande/RS, involving the revitalization of Porto Velho jointly with the historical center, which leads to the possibility of global processes occurrence, broadly metropolitan ones, in a medium city. From the urban geography perspective, we analyze the process and its local implications, with the influence of different local-global levels. Therefore we assume impacts such as gentrification and public space appropriation - in short, the supremacy of exchange value, evidenced by various facets especially the spatial valorization in face of structural and cultural resources appropriation, in other words, the consumption in/of the space.
