Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the aesthetic impact of tall buildings through the perception of users of the urban space from different observation points and, based on the results, analyze two academic proposals (completion of work of the Architecture and Urbanism course) urban intervention for sectors in the 4th District of Porto Alegre. Data were collected through questionnaires made available via the Internet to users of urban space of Porto Alegre - Brazil, divided into three groups of respondents: architects; nonarchitects college graduates and people non college graduates. The results indicate that the impacts of tall buildings in urban aesthetics can be perceived in different ways, according to the distance from which they are observed. When observed at level eye the impact tends to be more negative than when observed from a distance – on the city skyline.
