Abstract

Mexico by the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) designs and manages programs that are committed to the existing rich heritage in the territory. In 2001 the Magic Towns program emerges as a strategy to diversify tourism within the country, seeking to revitalize the local economy; placing value on the assets of the registered locations. This document focuses on establishing and identify whether the implementation of this program has contributed to local development of populations enrolled from 2001 to 2014. The results suggest that this program shows progress in locations with similar morphological characteristics, but still can not be considered as a main driver for local development of the registered population.
