Abstract

This article comes from an initial investigation of a research that search for deepening on the problematic behind the relations between natural environment and urban development, more specific on the existent conflicts on an environment that forms itself as a transition between preservation of natural elements and their appropriation, the margins of water streams. Descriptive analyses were made on the natural environment characteristics of two different cities and on the influences of their different urbanization process. The study objects were two watersheds, one in each city, in order to study the different interrelation developed between urban fabric and the water stream margins. Understanding how each situation would interfere on the process of trying to reconnect men and natural elements and believing that the right way of preserving natural environment is to balance the intangibility of preservations laws with the appropriation of those natural elements by the local population.
