Abstract

Last September, in the area of Poblenou, was set up the first Superisle of the Barcelona’s residential Superblocks project. The author of the theoretical proposal of the prlan, Salvador Rueda, argues that the implementation of this system can solve most of the problems of the city linked to mobility and the use of public space. However, there has been hardly any serious debate about the appropriateness and definition of such a big project. For this reason, and in the absence of such debate, I intend to review some of the characteristics of the project of Superbolcks of Ensanche from the writings and interview of Salvador Rueda and review them from theoretical approaches of authors who have studied the themes of mobility, and public space. Also, I will present an alternative project to reduce road traffic, which is being developed in the Ensanche of Barcelona.
