Abstract

The present work aims to grasp the meaning of the transformation of the coastal territory of the Balneário Mar Grossoin Laguna -SC, south of Brazil. It is the place of the municipality where the exploration of the tourism happens in a more intense way, since it is one of the main destinations of mass tourism of the center-south region of the State of Santa Catarina. Due to the tourist nature of the Balneário (beach complex), its public spaces are subject to the phenomenon of the seasonality. The beach complex has developed from different processes of urban growth that, in turn, result in different public spaces and withdifferent forms of appropriation by the users of these spaces. This work aims to understand the processes of urban growth identified in the formation of the Balneário Mar Grossoand how these spaces have been appropriated by its users, through a space-time reading and also the appropriations verified by the users in field observations.
