Abstract

The contemporary city conceives the peri-urban space as the border territory between the urban and rural world, where the real or potential incorporation of new lands into the city makes it a battlefield. The rescue of the territorial identity of horticultural and agricultural areas as sensitive environments, as well as the valorization of the new emergent landscape for planning, seem to provide keys to their protection, which involve the modification of project and normative logics. The work that is presented analyzes the spaces in transformation and the vocation of the territory in the northern metropolitan expansion of the city of Santa Fe, Argentina, a place that was anthropized, historically dispensing with the conditions of natural support. However, the peri-urban that brings us together is a fragment that has the particularity of having maintained to a large extent productive and residential uses preserving natural resources, but coexisting in tension with water vulnerabilities.
