Objective
Almost half a century after its publication, research La enseñanza del urbanismo. Perspectiva española 1970-1980 remains one of the most complete analysis of those developed in our country. A decade later the General Directorate of Territorial Action and Urbanism publishes a related report, followed by some other interesting ones. The objective of this article is to consider the implications of the changes in the discipline on the teaching of urban planning and its exercise. This first part focuses on the period between the planning crisis of the seventies and the turn of the century.
Methodology
Therefore we review the statute of urbanism, the first attacks against planning, the long and sterile debate between project and plan, the deregulating trends, the accelerated urban transformations, the changing orientation in the planning and administrative organization, as well as in the changes in our university structure.
Conclusions
All this allows us to outline a new interpretation of the perspectives of urban planning in our context, as well as some considerations about the education of urbanism.
Originality
The relationship between urban planning, its university education and its exercise, allow us to offer a more complete vision of the substantial changes in a key period of our urbanism.
