Abstract

Two importants traditions have coexisted in the Mediterranean, classical city and islamic city. The mode of live the city, the use of public spaces and the nature of social relations are different in both cases. The twentieth century has meant an important change in the way of social interaction in the city. Thanks to technological advances, the physical urban space coexists now with a new virtual space. From Agora to Whatsapp means the evolution of communication in mediterranean square and courtyard to communication based on a new social applications trough Internet and new technologies. This new phenomenon was anticipated by Italian Futurism, Le Corbusier or Marshall McLuhan and his theory of the global village.
