Abstract

This article touches on the debate about the organization of the Spanish coast, the problems and solutions that arise in its management, responding to the degradation caused by urban, industrial and touristic occupancy. To discuss this, the debate that has occurred around this issue from the engineering and urban planning policies of the last thirty years has been analysed. e Canary Coastline Planning Guidelines are an example of how one can give an answer to the problem of coastal management from the planning and environmental perspective. e article closes with a re ection of the need to involve society in the debate about coastal management in order to preserve its values.
