Abstract

This article reviews the original materials of the Port Leucate-Barcarès project, in Languedoc-Roussillon, conceived by Georges Candilis; a magnificent example of the French government’s actions during the sixties to develop mass tourism on the Mediterranean coast. This study relies on unpublished texts and images from Georges Candilis personal and professional files. Through critical analysis, we expect to know the values, relationships and contributions of the Modern Movement in architecture and urbanism of mass tourism, as well as the repercussions and influences of this project on the conception of international tourist space
