This paper proposes the meaning of the historic city center in the contemporary city and the new perspectives to approach it.The evolution of the ideas that have contributed to the construction of the concept “historic city center” and how these have been translated in the conception of these spaces, allows to identify a paradigm shift that begins with globalization, whose effects are producing profound changes in the sense of the old city cores, the market is taking advantage of its values to turn them into places of leisure and consumption. From these reflections a new approach for the recovery of these territories is proposed. If the residence is the city´s primary function, and this is threatened, why not think in a way to maintain the old town as a place to live, analyzing the qualities and deficiencies of the inhabited environments and the aspects that the daily use prints in these places.Downloads
