QRU 13: Water, city and territory (call for papers)

The relationships between water and territory are undeniable. It has been shown, from different approaches and disciplines, that this relationship conditions the way in which cities settle, grow and relate to their territories at a social, cultural, environmental and economic level. Water has served to accompany the development processes of cities, it allows it to be a conductor of the transformations of the territories over time. The studies that relate water and urbanization show the capacity for dominion, control, use –and abuse– that the human being has granted to this limited resource. As Michael Hough mentions, urbanization creates a new hydrological environment, in such a way that today it is inevitable to recognize that settlements alter the cycles and processes of water in the territories.

The current climate crisis suggests immediate challenges that can be studied from urban planning, land and landscape planning, suggesting integrating the understanding of water from a more holistic and binding perspective. For this reason, the magazine QRU (Quaderns de Recerca en Urbanisme), dedicates the next issue to those who place water as an object of study in relation to the city, we invite researchers to contribute to this effort through articles of research that relate water to the city, the territory or the landscape, from morphological, theoretical, historical and ecological approaches, among others, in different areas of the world and at different scales.

The texts, which will be submitted to peer review, must have an approximate length of 8,000 words, including notes and bibliography, and can be written in Spanish, Catalan, English and Portuguese. The publication guidelines can be found at the following link: https://revistes.upc.edu/index.php/QRU/about/submissions#authorGuidelines

Submissions will be received until September 30th, 2022.

QRU 14: Urban peripheries (call for papers)

One of the most relevant challenges of the contemporary city is the need to act on
territories in which urban habitability conditions are deficient and/or deficient
that make them places with urban precariousness. Fragile and vulnerable from various
points of view: environmental, economic and social, they are often due to their configurations
physical and morphological. These conditions occur in different locations, for different reasons.
reasons and at different levels. Also these places have multiple denominations and
they need specific performances drawn from a possible, broad and increasingly
generic of solutions but that also need new perspectives and the invention of
new strategies and instruments
The study and analysis of the processes and dynamics, and of the morphological expressions in which
occur are necessary for their recognition and characterization. Also
the formulation of proposals and dissemination of useful good practices for urban regeneration
of these “urban peripheries”. This issue is presented as an opportunity for reflection
on these topics, to which we invite researchers to participate
with their contributions, through research articles and dissemination of good practices,
from morphological, theoretical, historical, ecological, social or economic approaches, in
different areas of the world and at different scales.
The texts, which will be submitted to peer review, must have an approximate length
of 7,500 words, including notes and bibliography, and can be written in Spanish, Catalan,
English and Portuguese. The publication regulations can be found at the following link:

QRU 15: On Mobility (call for papers)

“Because mobility is not just a transport issue but a societal issue, it is
the whole society that must be observed to innovate”
In an increasingly urbanized and connected society, mobility is becoming more and more
importance and has a determining social, economic and cultural value. mobility has been
converted into a generic right (the "right of rights") because it conditions access
to housing, health, work, culture, education, leisure, etc. The quality of the times
and places of circulation and transport has become a key variable of urban life,
in which the development of new technologies plays a preponderant role.
The Institute for the City in Motion (IVM) is an organization that was created in June
2000 to address the challenges posed by urban mobility and contribute to the emergence of
innovative solutions. For 20 years it has developed action-research programs and
stakeholder platforms with the aim of identifying, promoting and generating
innovative solutions in terms of urban mobility. With its innovative actions of
field, transnational projects and public-private partnerships, the Institute puts on the agenda
new ways of understanding mobility in the city, so that mobility becomes a
right and a pleasure.
The mobilizing experience of the “Institut pour la ville en mouvement”: research and actions
international organizations, innovative solutions and knowledge sharing has inspired this
number of QRU, which is proposed in collaboration with the Institute and with the aim of disseminating
their approaches and contributions, as well as expanding the knowledge base with other
contributions to the debate.
For this reason, the magazine QRU (Quaderns de Recerca en Urbanisme), invited researchers
and researchers who have the subject of mobility as an object of study to contribute in
this issue to debate and discussion through research articles or experiences
proposals that relate mobility with the construction of the city, the territory or the
landscape, from morphological, theoretical, historical, ecological approaches, in different
around the world and at different scales.
The texts, which will be submitted to peer review, must have a maximum length of
7,500 words, including notes and bibliography, and can be written in Spanish, Catalan,
English and Portuguese. The publication regulations can be found at the following link:
