Abstract

The objective of the research is to assess the role of spatiality as a catalyst for the survival of elderly people with disabilities within self-produced environments. To this end, a literary review was conducted to collect all those elements and spatial qualities with interference on inclusion and survival in the event of a disaster. With the results obtained, an instrument for spatial observation was built from various scales, the micro, the architectural, urban and geographical. With this instrument, three cases of neighborhoods with characteristics of self-production and highly exposed to natural hazards in the Metropolitan District of Quito were analyzed. The results indicate that spatiality can influence the actions of people in an emergency and that the qualities of its micro and geographic scales require particular attention in terms of risk management, health and inclusion.
