Abstract

The incorporation of architectural heritage in Montevideo into the institutional sphere is a phenomenon of recent history in Uruguay. This management arena is organized through a set of specific measures: a heritage soil regime under the Montevideo Plan of 1998, the creation of special commissions, the realization of urban and architectural inventories, and the development of territorial planning plans for areas with outstanding architectural value. Although these measures have not yet been applied in all the city's heritage areas, they are the long-term goal in heritage management.
